Kinda in love and I don't know why...

Isn't it awesome? It's a First Aid cabinet thing! To hold all your.... Band-Aids... medicine... medical gauze? Ok, so there's not much need for it. But it's so sleek and pretty and I want it! Plus it has a lock, so no more guests snooping around your medicine cabinet! Although it is kind of transparent/lucent... well, you can hide the embarrassing stuff in the translucent parts. Problem solved.
I want it for my future house (there's no place for it in our new bathroom-- pics coming soon).
AND IT'S ON SALE.
I'll have to try very hard to convince myself against this one.
Get it here (preferably for me!)

I love free stuff

I got this free tank top in the mail today from JC Penny! Free shipping, free tank top, no purchase necessary.
Granted, I ordered it on August 1st.
And it's long enough to be a dress.
And it's kind of ugly.
And I don't know if I'd ever wear it out of the house.
But it's FREE!

How to earn money by procrastinating

Step 1: Scatter your money. Put $5, $20, any bills in miscellaneous purses, boxes, etc. The more random and misplaced, the better.

Step 2: Wait a few years.

Step 3: Clean your room and find $55 and a never-redeemed $30 iTunes card.

Step 4: Rejoice.

(Tried and true method (by me). Just don't put the money in things you may throw away)

Help me, Internet!

Ok my loyal readers. My last poll didn't go so well. This one will be better. I need help deciding on a shelf layout for my newly-painted bathroom. We used paper the same size as the shelves to synthesize (thanks, John & Sherry (and Martha), for the tip!).
NOTE: Here's the very rudimentary bathroom layout. The shelves are going over the toilet nook:
So now I give you five options. Study them carefully (NOTE: we've already made sure none are low enough to bump people on the head while on the toilet. Each shelf is about 10 inches out from the wall, 11 inches wide, and 2 inches tall)

Option 1:

Option 2:

Option 3:

Option 4:

Option 5:

So there you have it. Which is your favorite? Please vote in the poll on the right-hand side of this page (below the visitor counter), then tell friends, family, strangers, etc. to vote also! My bathroom's prettiness is at stake!

PS: Isn't the new paint color gorgeous? "Before" pictures will be shown once it's all done!

I just rediscovered Rachel Pally. And I love it. Simple, comfy-looking, cute, and EXPENSIVE. Wah. Ah well. A girl can dream.

Bumper Sticker confusion

I saw this on a car today. And if you know me, you know I have a nitpick to call to attention:

Proud parent... period! The saying is nice. Much better than the Proud Parent of an Honor Student at Blahblah Middle School, Proud Parent of a C+ or Higher Student (well, except for math. But every kid sucks at math), Proud Parent of a Dog, etc. stickers.
But... huh.... something's not right.
Aha!
Period!
Period?
Period.
Shouldn't it be "Proud Parent... period."? I mean, I know they're super excited about how proud they are, but if you're actually writing that the sentence should end with a period, you should end it with a period. Or else it should say "Proud Parent... exclamation point!" But that's a bit wordy, dontcha think?
Ah well.
Maybe their kid isn't doing so hot in grammar either. That's why he/she is not an honor student. That's why they can't proudly display that "Proud Parent of an Honors Student" sticker on their car.
Mmhmm.

Old Calendars

Inspired by this post from my favorite blog, Young House Love, I'm wondering:
What do bookstores, etc. do with calendars from the past year that didn't sell?
You can't use them (well, you can use them for art, as Sherry and John mentioned), you can't sell them... do they go in the dumpster? Get recycled? Given away for free to anyone who'll take them? Ok, that last one is wishful thinking...
I'm totally going to ask someone next time I'm in Barnes & Noble.
But until then, any ideas? Have you worked at a calendar company/bookstore and know what happens to them? Do tell!

Parasols

I just realized two things about parasols:
1. They are made of lace because, not in spite, of the translucency of the fabric. So *some* but not all sun gets in. That makes sense, right? I always thought it was supposed to block all sun.
2. "Parasol" is either French or Spanish (or both) for "for sun." Para (for) sol (sun). Totally obvious, but I never noticed it before!

None of this information will ever help me in any way... nor does anyone ever use parasols anymore..... but still...

Yummy inspiration of the day!

(photo from decorology)

The colors! The delightful natural light! The splashes of pink! The crisp white! Who cares if it's just a bathroom--I LOVE IT!
Speaking of bathroom.... ours is painted! And the mirror is up! But we're still a ways away from "After" material, so be patient!

PS: I'm on vacation, so I'll be posting pretty sporadically for the next week. Sorry, loyal visitors!

Reminder

Dear Future Self:
Don't wear wedges to your next college tour. Those gorgeous green quads are pretty but not level. You will fall again. You will scrape up your knee again. You will land in the most awkward position possible again. It will be embarrassing again. It will hurt again. Don't do it... again.

Love,
Past Self

PS: Now the word "again" looks and sounds so weird. Yarg.

Preeeeetty!

So I know you're oggling at my new blog header, right? It's gorgeous isn't it?
Guess who did it?
No, seriously, guess.
"I give up" isn't an answer, GUESS!
...
Ok fine.
It was me!

It's surprisingly easy. I'm so proud of my work. Now if only I can figure out how to change the color of my type. There's no magenta on the color palette!

This Past Week

Things I've Learned in the Past Week:
- I have almost 100 more visitors than my mom's blog!
- The play Arcadia is LONG. Like 3 1/2 hours long. Learned that the hard way.
- Every stranger who hears you're a senior in high school WILL ask you about your plans for college.
- The weather this summer sucks
- Interior decorating is a lot harder than I thought
- Psych is back and still awesome!
- One of my first blog addictions, More Ways to Waste Time, is defunct. :(

Uh oh

I have a problem.
I think I have a hair in my throat. But I'm not sure. Could be my imagination. I tried to drink water to wash it down but it's still there. Or still not there, if that makes sense (which it doesn't). I wonder if there's some ancient witch remedy for this... sing Yankee Doodle Dandy three times backwards while doing the Electric Slide, naked.
I'll try that.
Wish me luck.

My super special gift

Readers, I have a talent. An amazing ability; a profound gift; a calling, if you will.
Want to know what it is?
I can recognize actors from TV shows and movies and remember what other parts they played in other movies/shows. It sounds pretty easy, right? WRONG.
Did you know that the lady who played that lady who was in a wheelchair on the short-lived TV show The Class played a guard for the battle of the bands in School of Rock?
Did you know that Anna Faris, of The House Bunny fame, played Monica and Chandler's adopted twins' mother on Friends?
Did you know that Paulette from Legally Blonde was on that stupid show Thank God You're Here and now plays the hooker-turned-fiance-of-Ben's-dad Betty on The Secret Life of the American Teenager (and was also on Friends as Monica and Phoebe's friend Amanda)?
There's so many more that I've noticed (always backed up by the trusty IMDB!). Cower in the distance. Kiss my feet. Bow down.

Ahem.

So today I was flipping channels and I see a 1993 episode of some old sitcom, The Nanny, and who do I find but-- wait, could it be? YES IT IS!-- my celeb-crush James Marsden! I recognized him right away. He looked so young!

Side note: I could've sworn the guy who plays Lupin in Harry Potter played the drunk actor from the wedding episode of Friends, so I looked it up and guess what? It's not him, it's the actor who played Sirius in Harry Potter! Funny, huh?

Some random stuff

Camp is over! Yay. I have so much stuff on my mind, I feel like I'll do multiple posts a day. So buckle up and enjoy the ride! Wait, never mind, that was a stupid metaphor...
- I kinda want to learn how to sew. I see things like this and think "I could totally do that. I SHOULD totally do that." But alas, my lack of sewing experience (and lack of general patience) keeps me from it. Ah well. So much opportunity, so little talent.
- So my birthday was last month. I know, I know, I should've told you guys. I'm sure I would've been bombarded with gifts, right? I got some cool stuff from my parents, including 30 Rock DVDs and OMG THESE COOL THINGS.
- In less than 12 hours, the painter will be here to finally remove the hideous wallpaper  that's poisoning our otherwise-promising bathroom. And in about 3 days, we'll have a fresh coat of Behr's Monaco, a light greyish blue(or the equivalent in whatever kind of paint our painter chooses).

As you may be able to tell, this week is Home Decor week. I've since recovered from my Harry Potter High, and now I'm onto a Home Decor High (do I only get high on things that start with H? What's next, hash browns?)! So be prepared for lots of home decor posts this week (hopefully including my bathroom before and after!)

IKEA

So I'm not taking your lack of comments/poll votes on my blog badly. In fact, it must mean that my blog is so perfect that you have nothing to criticize! Yay!
Right? Am I right?
No?
Then tell me!

On a different note, I went to IKEA today.
I love IKEA.
We got tons of stuff for the soon-to-be-painted bathroom (yes, we picked a color! Pictures to follow when the room is totally done), some tables for the sunroom, some pretty fabric, and some pretty wrapping paper (reversible, too! AND on sale for 50 cents a roll! HECK YES!).
I love IKEA.
I wish there was another IKEA-cheap, IKEA-modern store that isn't IKEA. Y'know, for variety. Anyone know of one?

Oh, BTW

I love John Krasinski.
