Madeline Weinrib

What do you guys think of my new header? I'm finally satisfied, after a few failed attempts. I think I'll be keeping this one for a while. To celebrate, let's talk about some pretty things!


Madeline Weinrib is amazing. Her rugs, her pillows, her fabric-- everything. Especially her rugs. Right next to my goal of learning how to walk in heels is my goal of owning a gorgeous Madeline Weinrib rug. Both, I predict, will be difficult to complete, as the former requires a sense of balance I don't have, and the latter, a lot of money, which I also don't have. But for now I can visit her website and imagine walking around in 4-inch heels on her divine rugs in my New York loft/Greenwich mansion/LA beach house. Hey, a woman can dream!

This will go in the ultra-swanky living room, paired with rich jewel-tones like emerald and magenta.

This will go in my living room when we revamp it for summer (yes, we will redecorate for every season).

This will go in my sun room, surrounded by... sun. I don't know, I just love this rug.

This will go in my daughter's room, which will be pink but sophisticated, with clean lines and bright patterns. And a bed with a canopy, because I always wanted one of those.

This is probably my absolute favorite. It will go in my walk-in closet, which will be girlie and spacious with lots of white and glass and sunlight.

Deal of the Day!

So this week was a double-30 Rock-- yippee! Unfortunately, I'm kind of overwhelmed with schoolwork, so the recaps wont be out until this weekend. I know, I know, try to contain your tears.

To tide you over, here's my latest home decor steal, straight from one of my favorite home decor haunts, Crate and Barrel! They're having MAJOR sales right now, and not just on holiday stuff! Check out this pillow I got, for... drumroll.... $10!

Isn't is gooorgeous? It's not just stripes, it's flaps of felt. It looks so much better in person. Right now it's plopped on a hideous section of a couch that's acting as an armchair... and has a gaping hole in the cushion. So the pro/con (depending on the way you look at it) of this pillow is it makes me want a new armchair! Maybe something purple... or blue...

Congrats and a Pet Peeve

Just wanted to wish a big ol' congratulations to John and Sherry of Young House Love, my favorite home decor blog, on their soon-to-be baby! You guys are going to be awesome parents and the baby is going to be adorable (and a home decor genius!)! Plus the nursery is going to be AH. MAZING.

And, as most things tend to do, this caused my mind to wander. And I realized one of my pet peeves (which Jon and Sherry have not used, btw). The phrase "We're pregnant" is just weird to me. I know it's meant to include the father in the festivities, but couldn't you just say "We're having a baby" or "We're going to be parents"? I don't mind if the woman says "I'm pregnant" or the man says "She's pregnant." It's just the whole "we" thing that makes me thing of Thomas Beatie and sea horses...

Anyone else feel the same way?

Anthropologie Inspiration for November 2009

I've been pretty busy doing homework (read: watching TV) the past couple of days, and on top of that I've had major blogger's blog. But I'm back! *insert raucous applause*

So I got my first Anthropologie catalogue last week. IT. IS. GORGEOUS.

I especially love the backdrop of the old mansion filled with (fake) snow. Just inspired. Here's some proof:

So whimsical, so innovative, so pretty! Of course I would expect nothing less from my beloved anthro. Seriously, how could you not become enchanted by this:

I dare you. And there was more whimsical fun to be had throughout this catalogue. Class, turn to page 35 for a superb example of irony at the peak of its beauty:

Book with paper pages. Paper from trees cut into tree shapes. All to compliment the Enchanted Woods iPhone dock. A mix of old and new. I love it.

I have no reason as to why I love this. It's just too freaking cute.

I WANT THIS DRESS. I will travel to where ever she seems to be walking (Ireland?) and steal it from her. Seriously. It's gorgeous.

Attention Home Decor/Freebie lovers!

The ultimate prize! A FREE quart of Glidden paint!

Granted, you have to send in a competitor's paint label (so you have to have some paint already lying around). Luckily, we did, from our recent bathroom redo (which I PROMISE will be revealed as soon as possible!)

So in 8 to 10 weeks (GAH!), I will hopefully receive a quart of Rich Navy! I figured I was more likely to paint something a lovely neutral like navy than some funky magenta (though that's definitely next on my paint list!). I'm thinking of painting a small coffee table we had this is COVERED with my old collection of stickers. It'll be one heck of a DIY!

Kinda in love and I don't know why...

Isn't it awesome? It's a First Aid cabinet thing! To hold all your.... Band-Aids... medicine... medical gauze? Ok, so there's not much need for it. But it's so sleek and pretty and I want it! Plus it has a lock, so no more guests snooping around your medicine cabinet! Although it is kind of transparent/lucent... well, you can hide the embarrassing stuff in the translucent parts. Problem solved.

I want it for my future house (there's no place for it in our new bathroom-- pics coming soon).

AND IT'S ON SALE.

I'll have to try very hard to convince myself against this one.

The colors! The delightful natural light! The splashes of pink! The crisp white! Who cares if it's just a bathroom--I LOVE IT!

Speaking of bathroom.... ours is painted! And the mirror is up! But we're still a ways away from "After" material, so be patient!

This Past Week

Things I've Learned in the Past Week:

- I have almost 100 more visitors than my mom's blog!

- The play Arcadia is LONG. Like 3 1/2 hours long. Learned that the hard way.

- Every stranger who hears you're a senior in high school WILL ask you about your plans for college.

- The weather this summer sucks

- Interior decorating is a lot harder than I thought

- Psych is back and still awesome!

- One of my first blog addictions, More Ways to Waste Time, is defunct. :(

Some random stuff

Camp is over! Yay. I have so much stuff on my mind, I feel like I'll do multiple posts a day. So buckle up and enjoy the ride! Wait, never mind, that was a stupid metaphor...

- I kinda want to learn how to sew. I see things like this and think "I could totally do that. I SHOULD totally do that." But alas, my lack of sewing experience (and lack of general patience) keeps me from it. Ah well. So much opportunity, so little talent.

- So my birthday was last month. I know, I know, I should've told you guys. I'm sure I would've been bombarded with gifts, right? I got some cool stuff from my parents, including 30 Rock DVDs and OMG THESE COOL THINGS.

- In less than 12 hours, the painter will be here to finally remove the hideous wallpaper  that's poisoning our otherwise-promising bathroom. And in about 3 days, we'll have a fresh coat of Behr's Monaco, a light greyish blue(or the equivalent in whatever kind of paint our painter chooses).

As you may be able to tell, this week is Home Decor week. I've since recovered from my Harry Potter High, and now I'm onto a Home Decor High (do I only get high on things that start with H? What's next, hash browns?)! So be prepared for lots of home decor posts this week (hopefully including my bathroom before and after!)

IKEA

So I'm not taking your lack of comments/poll votes on my blog badly. In fact, it must mean that my blog is so perfect that you have nothing to criticize! Yay! 

Right? Am I right?

On a different note, I went to IKEA today.

I love IKEA.

We got tons of stuff for the soon-to-be-painted bathroom (yes, we picked a color! Pictures to follow when the room is totally done), some tables for the sunroom, some pretty fabric, and some pretty wrapping paper (reversible, too! AND on sale for 50 cents a roll! HECK YES!). 

I love IKEA.

I wish there was another IKEA-cheap, IKEA-modern store that isn't IKEA. Y'know, for variety. Anyone know of one?

PBteen: Good or Evil?

In the same way that Limited Too used to be my lusted-after-but-too-expensive-to-buy clothing store, PBteen was my lusted-after-but-too-expensive-to-buy home decor store. I'd flip through catalogues, drooling away, pining over this polka-dotted rug and that ethereal lamp. I'd go back and forth between featured rooms, picking my absolute favorite and not-so-subtly hinting to my parents that I wanted it. 

Now I've grown and learned, and with that I slowly progressed away from Limited Too (isn't it called "Justice" now?) and PBteen. And while I stopped receiving Limited Too catalogues a few years ago, once in a blue moon (wait, what? Is there ever a blue moon?) I get a PBteen catalogue.

Today was one such day. And I must admit, I still love some of their stuff. Some, not so much.

Adorable! Especially the white-- they have the perfect amount of intricacy and texture to make them a great accessory to any room.

MY EYES! Oh god the many uncoordinated patterns! And the button! IT BURNS!

They've had this same style of bedding for years. NEWSFLASH: It has NEVER looked good!

I love it! The tree-inspired lamp base, that is. So simple and whimsical. Plus I bet the branches would be perfect for holding jewelry!

My relationship with PBteen is a bit of a roller coaster, as you can see. But if there's one thing I learnt from them, it's that with some pretty paint, cute accesories, and a wide open window emitting  cheery sunlight, you can make any room look inviting.
